Ricardo Gago wurde im August 1949 in Montamarta, einem Dorf in der Provinz Zamora, geboren. Mit zwei Jahren zieht er mit seinen Eltern nach La Felguera (Langreo) in Asturien, wo er bis zu seinem siebzehnten Geburtstag lebt. In der Mitte der sechziger Jahre zieht er nach Mallorca. Bevor er sich in Sineu niederlässt, wohnt er in Paguera, Palma und Alaró. Er studiert fünf Jahre lang die Techniken seines Lehrers Joaquin Torrents Lladó (1946 – 1993), der zu seiner Zeit als der „neue Velázques“ bezeichnet wurde.

Man findet ihn in seinem Studio in Sineu mitten in der historischen Stadtvilla Can Gill, einem Herrenhaus aus dem 13. Jahrhundert. Die Magie des Ortes ist einzigartig und inspiriert den Künstler immer wieder neu. „Die Geister des Hauses leiten mich und sagen mir, was ich zu tun habe. Die Dinge, die ich im Haus fand, wie die mittelalterlichen Gemälde und Zeichnungen, beeinflussen meine Arbeit. Dieses Etwas, fast Magie, schafft eine Atmosphäre, in der ich mich sehr wohl fühle, wenn ich arbeite.“

Die Arbeiten des Künstlers sind zeitlos, kraftvoll und von unterschiedlichsten Stilen geprägt. Mit seiner überbordenden künstlerischen Phantasie, die sich auf kein Material, kein Medium und keinen Stil festlegen lässt, schafft er einzigartige Werke mit Pinsel, Stift oder Ton. Sein künstlerisches Schaffen zeichnet sich durch Vielseitigkeit und Einzigartigkeit aus und zieht einen magisch in seinen Bann. Nacktheit, Erotik, Lebenslust, die Zurschaustellung der Körperlichkeit zieht sich wie ein roter Faden durch sein Werk.

Neben der weiblichen Schönheit, der Frauenfiguren, die als Bronzestatuen überall in seiner Galerie tanzen, liegen und stehen, hat sich Gago den Radfahrern malerisch verschrieben. Jedes Jahr strömen sie zu ihm nach Sineu und kaufen seine farbenfrohen Werke.

Ricardo Gago was born in August 1949 in Montamarta, a village in the province of Zamora. He moved to La Felguera (Langreo) in Asturias with his parents at the age of two, living there until he was 17. In the mid-1960s, Gago relocated to Mallorca. He lived in Paguera, Palma and Alaró before settling in Sineu. Gago spent five years studying the techniques of his teacher Joaquin Torrents Lladó (1946–1993), who was dubbed the “new Velázquez” of his time.

Today, he can be found working in his studio in Can Gill, a 13th century villa located at the heart of Sineu. The unique magic of this place inspires Gago time and again. “The spirits of this house guide me and tell me what to do. The things I have found here, such as the medieval paintings and drawings, influence my work. This special something, magic almost, creates an atmosphere in which I feel very at ease when I’m working.”

Gago’s work is timeless, powerful and shaped by a whole variety of different styles. Drawing on his boundless artistic imagination, which refuses to be confined to any one material, medium or style, he uses brushes, pencils or clay to create pieces that are one of a kind. His versatile and unique creations captivate viewers. Nudity, eroticism, lust for life and the celebration of physicality run through his work like a red thread.

In addition to the feminine beauty portrayed in the many bronze figures that dance, lie and stand everywhere in his gallery, Gago has also dedicated himself to painting cyclists. Every year, cyclists flock to Sineu to purchase his vibrant works.

Ricardo Gago nació en Montamarta, un pueblo de la provincia de Zamora, en 1949. A la edad de dos años se mudó con sus padres a La Felguera (Langreo, Asturias), donde vivió hasta los 17 años. A mediados de la década de los 60 se trasladó a Mallorca. Antes de asentarse en Sineu, vivió en Paguera, Palma y Alaró. Durante cinco años estudió las técnicas de su maestro, Joaquín Torrents Lladó (1946 – 1993), a quien en su época se calificó de «el nuevo Velázquez».

Se le encuentra en su estudio de Sineu, en un caserón del siglo XIII, el histórico Can Gili. La magia del lugar es única y le sirve de inspiración al artista una y otra vez. «Los espíritus de la casa me guían y me dicen lo que tengo que hacer. Las cosas que me encontré en la casa, como las pinturas y los dibujos medievales, influyen en mi trabajo. Ese algo tan especial, casi magia, crea una atmósfera en la que me siento muy a gusto cuando trabajo».

Los trabajos del artista son intemporales, poderosos y marcados por los estilos más variados. Con su extraordinaria fantasía artística, que no se limita a ningún material, medio o estilo fijos, crea obras singulares, ya sea con el pincel, el lápiz o la arcilla. Su creatividad artística se caracteriza por la diversidad y la singularidad y a uno lo hechiza mágicamente. Desnudo, erotismo, deseo vital, la exhibición del cuerpo para su contemplación es uno de los hilos conductores de su obra.

Junto a la belleza femenina, las mujeres que bailan, yacen y se yerguen en estatuas de bronce por toda su galería, Gago también se ha dedicado a pintar ciclistas. Cada año acuden a él en Sineu en masa y compran sus coloridas obras.
